With a little subterfuge, I took great delight in inviting Adam Roberts, a good friend of the Historic Flight, to the annual symposium of the Historic Aircraft Association (HAA), supposedly for a side-bar meeting about an upcoming project (more on that later)… little did he know that he would be awarded a trophy that day!
Farnborough Airshow – We’re Back!
We returned to the Farnborough International Airshow this year on Friday 22nd July 2022. The day was themed “Pioneers of Tomorrow”… it was the last day of the show and was dedicated to being an exciting showcase of the very best in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM)…
Fawley, we’re aw-fawley sorry to be late!
It was back in 2019 that Fawley Parish Council invited The Flight to attend their Armed Forces Day event, but initial enthusiasm turned into disappointment when our aircraft was fogged-in at Middle Wallop. After two years of lockdowns, on Saturday 18th June our Scout dropped into the Gang Warily Recreation Centre just inland from Southampton Water.

June 26th, 7am, 8 seconds of fuel priming, 9 checklist items, press the start button, and the sound of the Sioux engine purrs across Middle Wallop airfield.
Thruxton Historic
Thruxton Circuit stepped back in time and reverberated to the sounds and sights of the finest Historic and Classic motor racing in the country. With a total of 12 races over 2 days, it showcased some of the finest historic motor racing. This year for the first time they added heritage aviation to the event, and which we were invited to be a part of.
Jubilee Over Wallop
Saturday the 4th of June saw the Bell 47 Sioux leap to the skies amid some pretty blustery weather for a display at the nearby village of Over Wallop.
652 Sqn 80th Anniversary Formation
652 Sqn AAC celebrated the 80th Anniversary of their squadron on 10th June 2022. Auster XR244 had the honour of leading the commemorative formation.
Carbon Neutral Certification Achieved
The Historic Army Aircraft Flight has been investigating the options to mitigate the carbon produced by our flying activities. The Flight has chosen to work with Carbon Neutral Britain to offset the carbon being produced, and we have recently received our certification.
Surrey Schools Spectacular
Two Surrey schools were in for a treat on Friday 13th of May when they were visited by a team from the Historic Army Aircraft Flight and Boeing to talk about careers in engineering and aerospace.
Royal Air Squadron Visit
Drivers passing Middle Wallop last Friday morning would be forgiven for wondering what on earth was going on as more than 20 aeroplanes, and some helicopters, descended to land at the Army airbase. Middle Wallop, the home of Army Aviation was hosting a visit from the Royal Air Squadron.
STEM Outreach Day
Boeing and the Historic Army Aircraft Flight came together to hold a STEM outreach day at a local Hampshire school recently. A Boeing graduate on a placement at Middle Wallop grabbed the opportunity to get involved, and this is her story . . .
