Army Flying Museum
The Army Flying Museum is co-located with HAAF at Middle Wallop. The mission of the Museum is complementary to that of the Flight and we are delighted to have them as our partner.
The Army Flying Museum (AFM) tells the extraordinary story of the British Army in the air from the pioneering days of balloons and kites, through the Glider Pilot Regiment during World War Two, to modern Army Air Corps helicopter operations.
The Museum hosts collections of artefacts, medals, over thirty-five fixed-wing and rotary aircraft and together with imaginative displays and use of interactives and video, provide a fascinating insight into the history of British Army flying. A Memorial in the AFM grounds commemorates more than 5,000 who have died whilst serving in the British Army flying from early pioneers to modern Army Air Corps.
The Museum is open daily from 9am to 4.00pm and offers guided tours, educational sessions, outreach workshops, family-friendly activities, a popular lecture programme (both online and in person) and a varied events calendar, including its flagship fundraising event, Wallop Wheels & Wings, every July.
For front-row seats of aircraft in action, including the HAAF and with no need for museum admission, look no further than the Museum’s Apache Café which overlooks the airfield. The cafe is open daily from 9 am to 3.30 pm and is a great spot to enjoy a tea or coffee and a slice of delicious homemade cake and enjoy the view, or treat yourself to breakfast, lunch, or a light snack.
